A couple days ago I spoke with one of our brides whose wedding video we’re in the process of finishing up. She had recently received her wedding photos and we chatted a little about the whole wedding planning process – all the work that goes into researching and choosing vendors, and the important tasks you’re entrusting those people with on your big day. At one point in the conversation she said to me: “You know, we waited until the last minute to hire a videographer because a lot of my friends told me I’d never watch it.”
Then (much to my relief) she said, referring to their sneak peeks we’ve posted online, “[My husband] and I watch our videos ALL the time!”
I don’t mention this conversation to toot our own horn. I’ve just heard that statement so many times in reference to wedding videography – “You’ll never watch it.” People have said it to their friends while walking past our booth at bridal shows. Other wedding vendors have told brides and grooms this. And I even said it MYSELF – multiple times – during the process of planning our own wedding.
People who’ve made the above statement have no ill intentions and aren’t even neccessarly wrong. They’re just missing the first part of the sentence. Like photography, wedding videography is an investment and often – you get what you pay for. IF you [don’t do your research, go cheap, wait until the last minute] . . .then, yes, chances are ” . . you’ll never watch it.”
Our ultimate goal is not necessarily to have couples choose US for their wedding videography, just to choose WELL. Of course we love when couples choose Jonathon Link Studios but everyone has different styles and tastes. This is why we always provide couples with other recommendations when we are unavailable or they may be looking for a style entirely different than ours. Like photography, a lot of people just don’t understand all the technicalities that go along with shooting and editing video; which makes it difficult for couples when choosing wedding videography.
Every couple has different things that are most-important to them for their wedding. Some people have dreamed of flowers everywhere you look, some brides are willing to spare no expense when it comes to that one special dress, and other couples know for sure they want the best DJ in town . . and some want ALL of these 🙂 But whatever your priorities are – it makes no sense to pull out all the stops your budget allows and then skimp on the way they are captured. If videography is last on your list of priorities, especially budget-wise, then you really should just save yourself the money and invest it into your photography. I don’t say that to be sarcastic, it’s just simply the truth. Your video will get lost in a box in the back of the attic, and you’ll be left wondering why you even spent the money on it at all.
At Jonathon Link Studios, we’re always happy to answer any questions couples have, whether they are specific to our business or wedding videography as a whole. There are so many great videography teams out there, and if you’re willing to make the investment, your wedding video will not only be something you WILL value and WILL watch but something you’ll want to share with others!
